Application:
 litmus paper is a base indicator. It turns blue at 8.1 pH and higher. While not a measure of pH levels, it's a quick and accurate way to determine if a solution is alkaline.
Using Procedure:
An acidic solution turns blue litmus red. On the pH scale, acids have values less than 7, whereas bases have values greater than 7
Note:
Light-blue litmus paper turns red under acidic conditions, and red litmus paper turns blue under basic or alkaline conditions, with the color change occurring over the pH range 4.5–8.3 at 25 °C (77 °F).
