DESCRIPTION
MUD AND SILT REMOVER is specifically formulated to condition mud and silt-bearing ballast water preventing dense accumulations in ballast tanks. It comprises high molecular weight polymers which effectively keep mud in suspension and completely clean fouled systems.
By effectively unburdening the ballast tanks from mud and silt buildup, which contributes to unwanted weight, the valuable cargo capacity increases. This also helps to avoid corrosion from heavy mud and silt deposits, as well as the unwanted carrying of organisms that should not be introduced to the waters of foreign ports.
MUD AND SILT REMOVER works by formatting large, non-adhering, particles, when reacting with mud and silt, during with ballast water during ballasting operations. These large particles can be easily discharged with the ballast water during deballasting. They tend to settle quickly to the bottom of the tank but are loosely dispersed. Also use MUD AND SILT REMOVER for removing existing mud accumulations in ballast tanks.
APPLICATION
MUD AND SILT REMOVER can be used to remove mud, silt and sediments from ballast tanks, cooling water systems, pipelines, etc.
Pay extra attention to potential spillages of MUD AND SILT REMOVER on floors, decks etc, because of its slippery nature.
USE AND DOSING
Instructions are based on experience and are meant only as a guide since circumstances for each tank cleaning operation vary. They are not intended to interfere with the judgment of the vessel’s responsible personnel.
Inject MUD AND SILT REMOVER in small quantities into the ballast or cooling water of the system, before filling the tanks or the system. Heavy deposits may require several treatments.
MUD AND SILT REMOVER should be thorough mixed with the incoming water. Thus, it preferred that it is injected into the suction line of the ballast or cooling water pump. Circulation of the water through the tanks is recommended, and the suspended mud and silt will be pumped out when deballasting.
Normal Treatment
It is recommended to regularly dose each time tanks are ballasted, using a maintenance dosage of 2.0-3.0 lt per 100 tons of ballast water. For best dispersion of MUD AND SILT REMOVER throughout the ballast water, dose during the course of ballasting operations.
Treatment of Heavy Accumulations
For cleaning heavy accumulations, it is recommended that a dose rate of 10-15 ltrs of MUD AND SILT REMOVER per 100 tons of ballast water is applied.
Best results are obtained if good agitation is implemented, so that MUD AND SILT REMOVER is properly dispersed. Use fire hoses to help the product penetrate the mud accumulation. The treatment should be left for 3-5 hours in the tank to act and then strip completely dry. Depending on the severity and density of the mud accumulation, this procedure may have to be repeated up to 5-8 times.
